Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy: quarterfinals results

728х90-2

The final stages of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy come to an end, and the final four teams are known. There were two sensations and two quite predictable outcomes in the quarters.

The most anticipated was the clash between Kerala and Tamil Nadu, where the latter were favourites. However, everything could happen after Kerala scored 181 runs, as chasing such a result could be tough. Actually, it was, but Tamil Nadu was able to close the game in 19.3 overs with 187 runs.

One more predictable matchup was between Bengal and Karnataka. This pair was the most interesting, according to bookmakers, and squads approved it as well. Both teams scored 160 runs in their innings, and the Super Over finished in favour of Karnataka.

Although the gap between the teams was predicted to be huge in the following games, everything turned upside down in terms of final results. Thus, favourites were smashed by underdogs. Rajasthan scored only 84 runs when batted, so arguably was defeated by Vidarbha in just 14.5 overs. Gujarat decided to chase, but they couldn’t deal with Hyderabad’s bowlers and scored only 128 runs while they needed an additional 30.

The semifinal games will be played on November 20, where Tamil Nadu will fight against Hyderabad, while Karnataka will try to stop the astonishing run of Vidarbha.
