The first Test between hosting India and New Zealand guests ended in a draw. With only one wicket remaining, India was close to the win. However, there was not enough light, which forced referees to declare a draw.

It was quite a dramatic match with many turning points. India won the first innings with 345 runs. It lasted 112 overs. New Zealand scored 296 runs in 143 overs. It was obvious that both sides were prepared to fight. India’s second innings lasted 81 overs. The hosts scored 234 runs but lost seven wickets. They said it was enough. The real intrigue came in the final innings when the Kiwis had 284 runs to chase. The guests reached 80 runs with two wickets lost and 125 runs for four. This was quite scary for the hosts, considering that Indian bowlers were unable to score a target.

New Zealand was still in a difficult situation, however. The mission became almost impossible for the Kiwis after Ashwin took three wickets and Jadeja four. The Kiwis needed 129 runs with a single wicket remaining.

Paradoxically, Ajaz Patel and Rachin Ravindra, both Indian-born, were able to save their wicket in eight overs on their homeland. However, their forces were facilitated with issues with light. The referees didn’t allow them to continue the match, so this dramatic match ended. The next Test match between the sides will take place in Mumbai on December 3.
