The first 15 games in the 15th season of the IPL were already played. A few unexpected results and trends can be noted.
Thus, the most shocking now seems to be the results of two event favourites – Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. The most titled team of the competition (MI) and reigning champions (CSK) both lost three opening games and settled at the bottom of the standings.
On the contrary, two newcomers to the tournament, Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans, are close to the top of the standings. Thus, LSG won three out of four games, while GT is still the only unbeaten team with two wins out of two matches. Both teams are now in the playoff zone.

We should also note the results of Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals with a great net run rate. Thus, KKR took the first spot in the standings with an NRR of +1.102 grabbed in four matches (one loss). RR had a similar great NRR (+1.218), taken in three games (single loss). It’s obvious that both these teams will fight for the playoff spot this season. Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore now also have two wins in three games and will definitely be in the race for playoffs. At the same time, two defeats for Sunrisers Hyderabad (in two games) and Delhi Capitals (in three games) are warning results for those squads.
Of course, it’s too early to make any long-lasting prediction for this IPL season, but some of the results and trends look really shocking or unexpected, at least.
