Ballon d’Or is sent to Messi for the record seventh time

France Football hosted another ceremony to honour the 2021st-year’s best footballers. Lionel Messi, an Argentinian star, won his seventh award and gained absolute leadership in this regard.

The ceremony took place in Paris’ Chatelet Theater at the end of November. Many non-football celebrities were present, turning the ceremony into a huge media event. All were witnesses to setting a new record, which will be difficult to beat in the near future. The Copa America victory and the Spanish Cup with Barcelona were two of the most important achievements by Messi this season, although Barcelona failed in La Liga and Champions League without any chances.

Messi moved to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer. However, he hasn’t shown much since, aside from a few goals for the Champions League and Ligue 1.

All in all, it was sufficient to win 613 votes, surpassing Robert Levandowski with 580 and Jorginho with 460. Cristiano Ronaldo, the main rival to Messi (with five Ballon d’Or as well), received only 178 votes. He was even behind Karim Benzema or N’golo Kante for fourth and fifth place, respectively.
