Kontaveit defeated first-seeded Halep and won the tournament in Cluj-Napoca

Anett Kontaveit won the WTA 250 in Cluj-Napoca. In the final, the Estonian tennis player defeated the first seeded Simona Halep from Romania in two sets. This is the fifth singles title for an Estonian in her career.

The match lasted just over an hour. Kontaveit made five breaks, giving Halep three games on her serve.  Kontaveit won the second WTA tournament in a row. Anette won the Kremlin Cup in Moscow last week. In total, this is the fifth singles title of an Estonian in her career and the fourth in 2021.

In the quarter-finals, Kontaveit defeated Ukrainian Angelina Kalinina 2-0. In the semifinal, the Estonian overcame the Swedish Rebecca Peterson with the same score.
