Djokovic named Athlete of the Year by news agencies

News agencies recognised the first racket of the world, Novak Djokovic, as the Athlete of the Year in Europe. The Serbian tennis player won the voting in which 26 news agencies took part. Novak scored 172 points and was 39 points ahead of Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski. Third place went to the new Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen.

This season, Djokovic won three out of four Grand Slam tournaments. At the end of the 2021 season, the Serbs finished their tennis year in first place in the ATP world rankings for the seventh time. In December, the ITF recognised Novak as the world champion.

The Sportsman of the Year award, according to news agencies, became the fourth in the career of the Serb. Djokovic will not help Serbia in the Team ATP Cup in early January. The tennis player has not yet publicly announced whether he will play at the Australian Open next year.
